About the 2002 Town and Country Chrysler:
The Town and Country Chrysler is a family minivan first introduced in 1990 as a luxury variation of the Dodge Caravan, Plymouth Voyager and Chrysler Voyager. With the large amount of families living in Charlotte NC, the city of Charlotte has many 2002 Town and Country Chryslers driving down its streets.

The Chrysler Town & Country is a high quality automobile, but like any vehicle on the road, it can experience serious problems (with the engine, brakes, electrical system or transmission). These days, Chrysler transmissions have become more complicated and parts such as the clutch, flywheel and torque converter can fail regardless of your driving habits.

Transmission problems with the 2002 Town and Country Chrysler are very common. Most transmission problems range from losing gears, check engine light is on and most commonly that the van will not move.

Grinded or Broken Planetary gears for a 2002 Town and Country Transmission:

This photo shows the planetary gears for a Town and Country Transmission. If transmissions are not serviced properly, this is one type of damage that will occur to cause the need for a transmission repair or transmission rebuild. These planetary gears are grinded up which can cause the vehicle to not move properly. It may be hard to move forward or backward, may not move in neutral but moves when the van is off or other problems with movement - to no movement at all.

Transmission Damage Prevention:

- Transmission Fluid Flush: According to the Automatic Transmission Rebuilders Association (ATRA), fluid breakdown is still the number one cause of most transmission failures. Worn-out, oxidized transmission fluid can't provide the same level of lubrication and protection as fresh fluid. Contaminants in the fluid and varnish buildup on critical surfaces take a toll over time. Dirty worn-out fluid can cause control valves to stick, and bearings and clutches to fail inside the transmission. Change the fluid as often as it said in your owner's manual or when it becomes too dark (rather brown than red) or dirty.

Also, keep in mind that an automatic transmission can not be drained completely - there is always some transmission fluid left inside the transmission (the torque converter, in the valve body, etc.) which means you only can change about %60 of the fluid at once. This is one more reason to have your transmission fluid changed more often. Transmission fluid is very messy and the fluid flush needs to be done right. Be sure to bring your vehicle to an experienced transmission shop for all types of services or repairs. Twin Automotive is the top rated Transmission repair shop in Charlotte NC.

- Once in a while check the transmission fluid level and condition. Not all cars however have the automatic transmission dipstick, in some cars, for example, in late Volkswagen models, the transmission fluid can only be checked by the dealer. Consult with your owner's manual for details. If the transmission fluid level is too low, there is a leak somewhere that needs to be fixed.
- Regularly check your parking space for leaks. Doesn't matter, is it the engine oil leak, power steering fluid or transmission fluid; if you discover any, get it fixed before it caused something serious.
- Never shift to the Reverse or Parking until the car comes to a complete stop.

- Never shift from the Parking mode when engine rpm is higher than normal idle.

- Always hold a brakes down when shifting from Parking.
